New this week at Windsor Pick and Pull

Made my weekly visit to Windsor (Santa Rosa, northern California) "Pick and Pull" today. Since my last visit, they have put two "new" Benzes on the lot:

(1) 1973 450SEL with ratty red leather front seats and tan MB-Tex rear seat and some kind of V-8 gas engine. At the moment it's fairly complete and in pretty good shape (for a car in a junkyard) but that may not last too long depending on the interest of others in this area.

(2) 1984 190E with a five-speed manual transmission, 4-banger gasoline engine. This car is also mostly complete.

Caveat: This notice is only to let those of you who might live in this part of the world what's available at this particular junkyard. I am not associated with this business except as an occasional customer. I might be willing to go fetch something small for you but I am not, for example, in a position to pull the 5-speed and mail it to you. Sorry.

Jeremy

Good luck. I support the idea and suggested the same thing a few months ago:

Junkyard Alert Thread?

My idea didn't get much love though . . . seems like people aren't interested unless they are searching for that hard-to-find part.

For the record . . . I am still for this idea.

we need a sup forum like the performance diesel section. then have one post per area, that way its easy to find info specific to the area you are looking in.

This last weekend i went to every pick and pull in the Sacramento area. it would have been nice to know there were no 123s in Rocklin because i wouldn't have made that drive.

Would they have known what a 123 was if you had called before driving there? Or do they not answer the phones?

That's actually a good question. I don't know what the policy is but will ask next time I go to Windsor. I suspect that they would not want to get into the quiz show that would follow when they say, "yes we have several new Mercedes" -- "what color are they and what shape are the seats in and are they diesels and do they have manual transmissions and if so are they five-speeds" and on and on and on . . . so I'll bet they don't give out the phone number . . . I'm wrong, their web site lists two numbers for the Windsor site. Hmmmm.

In any case, I wouldn't trust the answer unless I knew the person I was speaking to. For example, SirNik84 mentioned to me that a friend of his, a forum member and a person I have met, now works at one of the P&Ps in the Sacramento area. Dream job, as Nik said, and dream friend to have.

The only safe way is to go look. If you're 75 miles away, easier said than done, unfortunately.

Pick-n-Pulls don't keep inventories of the cars on their lots. That doesn't mean that the yard guys don't have an idea of what's out there - but they are generally not the ones answering the phones. At most that person might be able to say whether or not they have any MBs in the imports section, but probably wouldn't tell you what model, year, color, etc.

My yard runs today I saw about 10 w126's, 5 r107's, four c280's (strange) , three w116's, three w201's, one w123 and two older models. Three yards in PBC, FL. Out of all of them I got the rear bumper center trim and a burlwood shifter.

There is a W123 turbo in the Vancouver WA yard. I'll hit it this weekend!

Why is Bio-Diesel wvo/svo a sticky? maybe that could be placed under the resources tab.

E-Bay/Craigs list could be combined into one instead of two. that would free up one sticky.

most likely what would happen is the moderators would put the junk yard threads under the parts forum

I have come across some pretty good MB`s at our 3 closest PNP. the closest one to me is 20+ miles and the other 2 are 40+ miles.

I like to keep tab on the inventory with my camera, but was told 2 wks ago they are not allowed. PNP writes a date the car came in on the L/R fender, this way I have an idea how much time the car has left.

They told me the same (but didn't know why, when I asked). Anyone know why no cameras in Pick and Pull yards?

Well I had my camera in a hard case on my belt, and she ask what was
that bulge under my overalls. I was on my way out anyway. she couldn`t
give me an answer either.

I haven`t heard of phones being banned, they would be for safety incase
you need to call for help if you are trapped under a car

so maybe I`ll stick it in my shorts, and when she asks me what the bulge
is....
