300SD drives like a brick thru mud.....

I'm starting a new thread here. I have posted a few times in the "w126 transmission fixed" thread. Anyway a few months ago the SD started slipping when starting out from stop signs etc. Now I have to manually shift 2-3-D to get up to speed. When I am up to speed (70-80mph) she cruises right along. Although it will not accelerate fast at all with out manually downshifting. I thought it was my Turbo but I don't think so since i have to manually shift to go. Vaccum seemed good at green dash pot.

I have changed all filters (fuel, air, transmission (~2000 miles ago), oil) to see if condition improved, but no, that would be too easy.

Is this signs of B2 or K1 kit fix?

Car has 156xxx plus miles on it. (more plus than shown on odometer I beleive)

Any advice? Thanks.

Baahaahaahaa.. looks like some pinhead gassers don't know transmissions either!!!!!!
I knew I should post in DIESEL but since I thought it more a TECHNICAL question I posted there. BUT no... too complicated for the gassers. I geuess they don't drive MB's with Transmissions.

If anyone has any real experience with sluggish transmissions etc. I would really apprieciate the help. Thanks in advance.

If the tranny slips then you may have problems with the hydraulic system of the tranny ie valve body or the bands are wearing out. Seals in the tranny could be shot.

Cant really tell until you take it apart...

You state that you have transmission issues and that "it slips when starting out from stop signs". Then you go on to suggest problems with the turbo..........which has absolutely nothing to do with a standing start.

We don't have anywhere near enough information or data to make even a WAG at your issue(s).

All automatics "slip" when they takeoff from a standing start. The engine should quickly rise to about 1700 and accelerate the vehicle from that point as the rpm's climb. If the engine revs to 2500 or more and the vehicle just sits there..........you're low on transmission fluid.........have a clogged transmission filter..........or the transmission is toast. There isn't much else that it can be.

Now, if you think the turbo is the problem..........which I don't, it won't have sufficient horsepower above 2500 rpm and you'll be limited to about 70 mph on the highway...........it won't want to go faster.

I would try to get a gauge on the transmission to read operating hydralic pressure. I suspect it is low. You seem to have inability to automatically shift up and slippage. On the otherhand I know little about automatic transmissions.

Your basic question was it a failure of the k 1 or k 2. You can remove the k2 for a critical inspection of the parts fairly easily.
