How is it? Diesel more than super unleaded

Isn't diesel less expensive to produce? Market for diesel, less demand than
petrol? I don't quite get how this all works. Most of the world transport of
goods is probably diesel powered. Is the diesel demand that much more than petrol, that it drives the price higher than what all of the USA uses
to get around? This seems strange. The demand for diesel is higher than
petrol? Something seems out of whack. Can anyone kindly explain this?

The "people" responsible are making the most profit in the history of the world, surpassing that of the former great Roman Empire. These "people" want nothing more than to have us starve to death due to sky high diesel prices, as the world runs on diesel. Trains, 18 wheeler trucks, everything which ships food across the country runs on diesel. Just think of how sharply the cost of fuel has risen in one year, now think about the next three years.

Force your local politicians to DEMAND it ...Drill HERE and Drill NOW and the oil prices will drop. We need to look at alternatives in the mean time but just the THREAT of drilling will effect oil prices right here and right now.

Heh, I've been a hardcore libertarian since "How I found freedom in an unfree world" in the late 70s/early 80s. This is more like "The incredible
bread machine" I guess. Sure feels like a scam to me. Diesel should be
as stable as a rock since there aren't near the amount of NEW diesel burning machines introduced into the marketplace to account for "increased" demand. Given the amount fuel oil heaters and diesel vehicles, and jets, that has to be a pretty stabile market. Is there really a choice between producing petrol over diesel, so much so that the oil companies
would risk the world transportation of goods and therefore world economy
for a couple extra bucks? Seems diesel should be the cheapest most un-influenced stabile market , as I perceive it. Did the demand for diesel go up so much to justify it being higher in cost than super? Only a small percentage of modern hot-rods need super. I'm a firm advocate of a free market, however..well.. I wonder if fishoil would mix with D2

I drive a bio-diesel tanker for a living and have talked to a few of the operators that work at different places that distribute fuel from the olympic pipeline. One thing I didn't know was that diesel is a by-product of refining gasoline. The main reason that prices are high for diesel is that a lot of it is going to China and India for their construction equipment.

1.Diesel is so expensive BECAUSE the damn Oil companies know they can get away with it! (the high cost of diesel is passed onto every consumer INVISIBLY)
2.Diesel is so high because the damn oil market speculators have driven the
prices through the roof! (and the s*****es inDC who are supposed to be regulating the market are all (Just like the thieves at 1600 Pennsylvania)in
the pockets of the oil companies+speculators.

Diesel production costs should place it at about 25% of the cost of Gasoline.
BUT the damn refiners have almost stopped production...so they can drive the
cost (retail) up.
Most of the American public is screaming about gasoline prices...The gas prices
impact only personal vehicle costs!
Diesel prices control the economy as far a fuels are concerned!
I of course include Kerosene,JP5,JP8,Etc. in the term "Diesel."

January 22 or so 2009 a lot of this will cease...the speculators will begin to be
prosecuted and the stranglehold on 1600 Pennsylvania will be no more.

Here is the "Great excuse" - BTU per gallon, that is compared to gasoline. Same unit of measure applied to natural gas. However if you do the math , the differential does not work, go figure. The US exports a very large quantity of diesel since our economy does not have as large a demand for diesel per capita as many other large consumers of petroleum products do. It's the dollar game like Enron played... speculation, contract purchases, trading in energy units and driving up our cost. Thank big oil!
