Warning: KAE voltage regs.

A couple of weeks ago, a New KAE regulator was installed on our 1976 300d. After trying to track down some electrical gremlins, I decided to check the fresh regulator.

I just pulled it out. One of the brushes is sticking inside the unit. I would also note that the brushes are not slotted like the reg. we replaced.

This yielded a charge below 13volts, and a few occasions where I needed a jump.

PS: I would like to add, that when you have your bolts off, to replace them with SHCS (Allen head -grade 8 bolts) as they were flat head from the factory (as a bonus, if you own a set of ball-end Allen keys, future replacement will be EASY) Bolts are usually free if you hit a bolt supplier (NOT fastonal!)

Is that like money being free when you "hit" a bank?

For my money, I would avoid socket head bolts at all cost.

a BOX on SHCS that size would be under $12. It wasn't even worth ringing them up at the store - the cashier just said take them.

Grade 8, the right size and with washers = easier to get on/off then the slotted screws used (the screwdriver likes to "cam out" and the tight space dosnt help)
