I'll bet you haven't checked your valve clearances lately. An old motor with tight valves could probably leak enough water through the valves to keep it from hydrolocking and breaking stuff, especially if you weren't turning high RPMs when you gave the "DIVE" order..

I often mist water into the turbo at 2500 RPM to decarbonize the engine, Ill bet the intake did its job and kept most of the water out.

When decarbonizing there will be tons of black smoke out of the exhaust. but the engine runs much better.

Somehow that just doesn't sound like a good idea...at all. Enough moisture goes through the engine when its raining real hard out to take care of that on its own....
