Insurance Premiums for Daily Driver
I'm surprised that my insurance premiums are higher for my '80 Mercedes than for my '95 Explorer (same coverage). I would have thought that the Mercedes would have lower premiums.
Anybody else have this experience. I have GEICO. Thanks, bigmaq

What kind of coverage? I would imagine collision would be more expensive. Comprehensive should be way lower.

Yep. Exploder's are fairly cheap to insure. I don't have full coverage on mine, so it's cheaper than the 300td. But even with full coverage I bet that it'd be a similar or cheaper premium.

I hve liability, personal injury protection, and uninsured motorist protection for the 420sel for a grand total of $282 every six months. I figure If I hit someone, its gonna be a total loss anyway, so why pay for the protection to get it fixed?

My gf was tagged a few years ago by some kid in a Honda. The Honda was destroyed, but the SD was drivable but totaled. The kid's insurance company offered $1000 for the car, and would not budge from that figure. My gf's insurance company paid more than $3k for the car. She got her deductible back as well, presumably after her company sued the other. If she had not had comprehensive insurance, she would have had to either accept the $1000 or go to court. |

You mean collision right?
I'll stick to my $55/mo comprehensive coverage plan.

Yeah the Mercedes was considerably more to insure then I had expected...
It was ~$55/month for full coverage and a $250 deductible. I have liability only on it right now (not worth the extra $ for such a cheap car...) and it's still $28/month for a limited use vehicle Just for reference... I'm 25 years old, use USAA , and have several cars on my policy. I figured they'd give me a break after raping me with $120/month on the Lotus and $180/month on the Lexus. Just for S&G's I got a quote from GEICO to see if the commercials were true... they wanted $340/month for the Lexus and wouldn't even touch the Lotus with a 10 foot pole because it's an "exotic" car

I believe that it was comprehensive because she was not at fault. I'm not sure. I never carry one without the other, and let the insurance company sort it out.l

im in the 100each/month for my excursion jeep and MB. the MB doesnt get all of the safety deductions like the excursion and jeep, so it balances out to the same. I tried a couple different companies and no real differences. florida is no fault so I would assume I would be a little cheaper elsewhere

The more cars you have the cheaper it gets.
I have six vehicles insured and 2 teenage boys driving, and it costs me right at $3000 per year. I only have full coverage on the MB and a Lexus. But the 97 Yukon with no collision is the most expensive to insure. $650 for the year. I guess the heavier the vehicle is the more it costs. I have Nationwide with the house on it as well. |
