Fuel sender the same diesel/gasser?

Do diesel and gassers get the same fuel sender, model for model? I just had my '87 300D Turbo (W124, OM603) sender apart -- it was acting flaky between 1/2 and 1/4 tank -- and got some black crud out of it. Hopefully that will resolve the flaky readings (haven't driven it yet).

More worrisome was the cracking that is affecting the plastic top of the sender. It is clear that some day in the not too distant future, I'll be replacing it. New ones cost $100+ depending on the supplier but there are two W124 300E gassers in my local Pick and Pull, an '88 and an '89. If one or both of those senders are in better shape it might buy me a few years. Anyone know whether they're the same as the diesel senders?

Jeremy

Right as usual

Thanks -- I pulled two senders today, from '88 and '89 300Es, and took the cleanest one, the '88. No surprise that senders come out of a gasoline tank cleaner than a diesel tank, I guess.

Total cost:
Pick and Pull admission $2.00
Sender $18.99
Environmental fee $1.79
Sales tax $1.70
Total $24.48

Cheapest I've seen a new one is $105 at ********AZ.

Everything is expensive here! Just one of the many joys of living in California. Think of us next winter while we're freezing on Bodega Head watching the annual Pacific Gray Whale migration while you're snug and warm in front of the furnace watching the white stuff come out of the sky. [I was raised in northern Wisconsin so I have a right to say things like that.]
