Smile Thanks To The Forum Members

Hello Members

I just wanted to thank everyone who helped me get my 83 300D going. I was close to parting her out but you guys never give up. I also have to apolojize for the 40 threads I started. By the time I got it going even I was confused as to where my posts were. There is a method to this madness. I had never even cranked a Mercedes Diesel before and I am going to attempt to adjust the valves tomorrow. This forum and older Mercedes vehicles rock. My wife thinks I am out of my mind. They are truly addictive.

Thanks
Bob Bridges

you'll probably find yourself buying another cheap beater and fixing it up.

Valve Adjustment

It will seem really hard to end up with what you first "Felt" with the gauge.
When you get where you think it's correct...Thghtening down the locknut
changes the gap ever so slightly and you have to allow for that.

Never give up on an old Benz! As long as it isn't rusted out, it's worth repairing and restoring. A picturesque beauty by the way!

or 5 --- just look at my signature.

I signed up on this forum before I knew how to spell Mercedes. I barely knew how to spell diesel --- use to drive diesel tractors on the farm about 35 years ago.

As long as they err in being a bit too loose, but not overly so, it should be ok.
