Cv axel will no go back in...Help
I rebuilt my Half shafts on my 1983 300 sd. I am trying to put them back in. The left one goes in well and the C clip goes right on.
However the right half shaft will not go in quite far enough for me to put the c clip on. I can see the groove, but only half of it is exposed. Any ideas on how to make the half shaft go just about a millimeter more into the rear end gears? Thanks |
Drop the rear diff.

Do you mean lower the differencial? I have done that. If you mean remove the differencial, can you explain how that will help me?
|
No lowering the diff all the way. Did you inspect the splines before hand? Are you sure you got the right type of axle?
|
Try swapping sides. If the left side goes in the right side and vise versa, then your golden. If not, then you you've narrowed down the possible issues. Also, check the spacer thickness for each spacer.
|
. . . and make sure you didn't accidentally get two spacers on the axle that won't go in.
|
Are they right ones??
You could try rasing the differential higher to get a better angle |

Come on mutt. You're not reading.......;) :D |
IF you are installing the same axle from the same side of the differential that it came out of and, you DID NOT mix up the spacer shims, then try gently tapping it in. Otherwise, you will need a new shim(s).
Axles spacers are unique to each axle/diff spider gear combination. |
It was a spacer problem. I had switched axels from one side to the other. Some how Ihad double sapcer on the right.
|
The spacers will 'hide' sticking to the diff bearing race sometimes when the axle comes out.
|
I am pretty sure that is was the issue they were hiding.
