Yes! I wouldn't remove the oil supply unless no oil is coming from the oil return tube! If there is nothing there then try removing the supply. Squealing is usually caused by a lack of lubrication. One tube feeds oil to the pump and the other should return the oil to the engine case.

Where is the oil return tube located? I have only ever seen the oil supply line that runs above the primer/lift pump

Your rigjht! I thought I had 2 lines but only one exists for oil supply! OOPS But I would bet the oil gets returned through the pump drive back into the crancase. Still, I would check this tube and see if the IP is getting oil.

I believe conventional way to get the IP off is to remove the Oil Filter Housing. Also there is a bolt somewhere (I have not seen it myself) in the back underside of the IP that goes through a bracket.
Someone at the local junkyard removed an IP from an 82 300SD without removing the Oil Filter Housing. It appeard that he removed the Vacuum Shtuoff (I found it on the ground near the car; it was no good) from the back of the IP and was able to remove the IP without removing the Oil Filter Housing. Howere, I have not tired this myself and maybe a 300D is different.

Darn it

I think that I'm just going to call around and see how much a few shops would charge me. My wife is 7 1/2 months pregnant and I have to get this car in good running order! If anyone knows of some good shops that don't charge an arm and a leg let me know. MBI is super good I just can't afford them.
