Shift points for '85 300D Turbo Diesel

Hi. Just purchased an 85 300TD. It didn't have the owner's manual, so I'm looking for some info on how others' cars shift. The shifting around town and on the freeway ramp is smooth, especially if I back off of the throttle a bit when it feels like it's coming to a shift. But at highway speeds (65 on our freeways) I'm running around 3000 RPM. Is this normal for this car? Our Dodge V-10 runs at about 1800 RPM at these speeds. I've got a Cessna that cruises at 3000 RPM, but it seems high for a car. Gas mileage runs about 26mpg, which seems about right looking at other posts on this site. I've seen references to the Bowden cable and how to adjust it. What are some typical shift points I should be looking for with the 85 300D?

Cruising speed is indeed pushing 3k rpm on the 617.952.

Shifts are controled by combination of throttle position and vacuum modulator.

Throttle position is adjusted via the bowden cable and firmness via the modulator on the side of the trans.

Modulator is usually the issue on older tran's.

Post on the diesel forum and you'll get inundated with advice.
