2008 Bluetec

My wife just took delivery of a new E320 Bluetec.

1. Is this a 211 chassis?

2. Where is the oil filter? Is it accessible from the top of the engine as was my 123?

KarTek 08-23-2008 09:03 PM

Nice car! It is a W211. The W212 will debut in '09 as a '10 model. Sorry don't know about the filter...

Johnhef 08-23-2008 10:06 PM

1) 211
2) filter is right in front under the engine cover.

OMG  I'll never consider a BluTec. Talk about squeezing everything together, that looks like a nightmare!

Thanks to all.

IRT the underhood nightmare; I fully agree. They cover it up with a nice plastic thing however. I really wish my Bride would have been satisfied with a really good 123.

Yes but if it is all reliable then you might never need to really do anything to all that stuff. I don't think it looks that bad, whatever can be built can be taken apart, it just might be a bit more complex than a 25 year old diesel. I'll be up to the challenge in the future if I have the privilege of driving one someday. :D

Yeah the new MB's are pretty good. Mercedes Enthusiast just had a nice article about how things are many times better now than they were in the late 90's.

Although, weren't the late 90's the start if not some of the worst years for MB as far as reliabilty? So maybe now it's acceptable level at best?

Hatterasguy 08-25-2008 04:47 PM

Yeah now they are probably at 1980's levels. Not quite Lexus but not to far off.

All the people I know with 2007+ MB's don't really seem to have any big issues.

ForcedInduction 08-25-2008 08:09 PM

The V6 was designed as a throw-away engine. The 05-06 E320 CDI is the newest MB Diesel I would consider buying unless they come out with a better engine.

Johnhef 08-25-2008 10:04 PM

Yeah and the new V6 is fun to tear into... :(

Elaborate please.
