Angry turbo rebuild

Pulled the air cleaner to turbo pipe off, and there's a small oil puddle under the intake turbine, and the turbo shaft moves in-out at least .020''...

While I'm doing a head gasket, is it possible to rebuild the turbo, and what brand/model number turbo do I have?

I've got an almost brand new KKK turbo from an 84 300D with zero shaft play if you're interested in it rather than a rebuild.

Cheapest option? Can someone rebuild a turbo on their own? What brand name turbos came with these motors originally?

How much for the KKK?

They used both KKK turbos and Garret (Air Research) turbos, any random car can have any random of the two.

There are a few flea bay dealers who pop up occasionally with turbo cassettes (everything between the compressor and turbine and you reuse the housings). I don't have a link but they're bound to be back sooner or later.

The kits are not too expensive but the one I bought lacked mounting gaskets, While not technically difficult to rebuild they are physically difficult to get apart and r and r ing them is a little time consuming too. Getting the return tube o rings in seems to be a sort of black art too.

We had mine on and off three times minimum before getting all the leaks stopped.

*laugh* careful, schumans banned my laptop's IP because I MENTIONED an ebay seller. I already put in for a parts quote form this site that includes the mounting kit anyway.
I'll choose the stupid fin option and rebuild, the car runs, just lots of oil blow-by. If things go south, the 'just buy one' option exists, plenty available.

Check this out:
Rebuilding Turbo

There are other threads that list replacement parts for around #25 but I don't feel like searching for them.

They are easy to rebuild, you probably have a cracked seal. Rebuild kit for the Garrett on my 350 was about $100 two years ago, includes seals and bearings. Got it from a local turbo shop near the race track in Charlotte, NC. Or find used one at nearest pull it yourself junk yard.

You can always upgrade to a VNT while you are in there.

I don't understand why anyone goes to that board, they have shown their childishness time and time again....

As for **************, I bet anything they have can be found here cheaper and more reliably. FI is no fan of theirs
