83 300SD Glow Plug Woes + Injection Pump Question
So, it turns out that a previous owner put cheap (Champion) glow plugs in my car at some point; I discovered this recently after deciding to replace the old with some new (Bosch).
I got the first one out successfully and checked the brand at that point, and started to get nervous, but was still cautiously optimistic. However, much to my dismay, the 2nd and 3rd would not come out, and I didn't even try the 4th or 5th. I'm fairly certain the tips are swollen/expanded per the cheapo brands' horrible reputation. So basically...what are my options? And as a side note, what can I sell a used injection pump for the same engine as my year/model in good working condition for? Thanks guys...

I changed mine back in March. Pretty sure they were original. They all ohm'ed out fine but it was a little smoky & shaky for the first 10 seconds. I used PB Blaster on them for a few days before I attempted replacement. They were a little tight even after they broke free so I sprayed them a little more as I was unscrewing them. I reamed the holes and installed the new ones anyway since they were out. PB Blaster or any other lubricant may help.

Yup, use PB blaster, and try removing them with the engine warm, that might help, in my experience they come out easier if the block is warm, and you might try spraying some of CRC's "Freeze Off" onto the plug for 10 seconds or so, it rapidly cools (and shrinks) the metal so that it breaks free easier. It has worked for me on many occasions.

I'd definitely get hold of a reamer. Like I said earlier, my glow plugs were fine but the holes were so carbon'd up that I had to use JimmyL's reamer about 3 times in each hole to get them clear. Since then, even at 30 degrees, glow light for about 5-10 seconds and fires to a solid idle. In today's temps - 90+, it barely glows for 2 seconds..

Any problem using a drill bit to ream? In a pinch I found one that was a hair smaller than the GP tip, gently stuck it in and rotated...seemed to work fine

I suppose not if you're careful, but I'm not one to push my luck

Fill the flutes with grease to trap the carbon and wipe off and replace the grease between each cleaning. This keeps the Carbon from going into the eingine.

I had the same problem, they came out past the threads then just turned without ejecting from their bore.
I placed a small pry bar (with a bit of wood taped on) behind the bolt part of the glo plug then applied a slight pressure and turned out the plug.
