86560SEL,

If you really want a larger car, I would hold out for a w126 or look for a wagon. The wagons have loads of interior room.

Oops. Now I understand the insistence on proper terminology in this forum. 300D Turbo Diesel Sedan is what he meant. I got it. Apparently, others are also confused... the SLS talk only sent me further down the wrong path.

Thanks... well he replied and the 300SDL has what he says is a slight transmission leak and it smokes under heavy acceleration. Not sure what all is going on there. My uncle over there was going to look at it for me, but when I heard that, I emailed him and called it off. Maybe I should have got him to go ahead and check it. Oh well.

Sorry, apparently I confused everyone when I was calling it a 300TD. That is what the car was listed as, but yes, it is actually a 1985 300D sedan with the turbo.... not a wagon. Sorry for the confusions.

Well, it was certainly better than the 85' 300SD I looked at today for $3500! Advertised as a "good car". When I got there, found out it had been setting for a year. He said the car runs fine all day if you let it idle, but once on the road, it starts to overheat.

$3500 seems like a lot for a car with this issue. Also had a 88' 560SEL that had a bad transmission.... didnt even ask the price on that one. I think it was $2000.

Jeez, don't even give these cars a second thought. Just keep looking.
