Just talked to the exhaust shop, they said they didn't pull the DP when they installed the new flex pipe, just cut it and welded in the car. Hmm. It could simply be a coincidence I suppose.

So does anyone know of a good source for the OEM turbo? Or know of a good place to get one rebuilt?

No Phil, fastlane will sell you a new turbo. My friend bought one from them for his E300D a few years back.
Click the "buy parts" tab, if you don't see it call Phil.

turbo city in CA
They will rebuild. Mail it to them and they return it in about a week. Mine was about $300, but you need to talk with them about what failed in yours.

With the compressor and turbine both destroyed and the housings damaged from blade contact, that turbo is junk, not rebuildable. He will need new, used or exchange (and eat the core charge).

I have seen the turbo torn apart... the housings have obviously been contacted by the wheels however the damage does not seem terribly severe. I am a no turbo expert but there is no way the housings are much more then 1-2 thousandths larger because of material scraped off.

And now a turbo is on the way!
I feel silly for asking this, but are there any good online stores that sell dealer only parts besides fastlane? I can't seem to find anyone who has the turbo oil feed line (PN A 603 108 02 27) besides the dealer @ $124. -J |

Finally, this is resolved. The used turbo seems to be working nicely, it boosts right to 11 and stays there. I also found a bad ALDA line while I was in there. The car drives much better now. Because the go pedal matches what the engine is outputting the trans is shifting perfectly now.
I will say this though... installing that turbo make me appreciate how much easier it is to work on a VW! You have to get the trubo, all the brackets, the crossover pipe just exactly right or nothing will bolt up. Now to get the strange "chain noise" issue fixed! -Jason
