Things to do before I put the new engine in?
 

Hi all,

I just wanted your take on any thing I should do before I put the new (old) engine in the 240D. It has 80k on it (the engine) I figured the timing chain should be ok.

Check valve lash,
Oil Cooler lines,
Oil filter gaskets? Are the ones from Victor Reinz oaky or should I get some from MB?
Belts

Should I do the Main Seals at all?

What else?

Your list sounds good although I don't know about the main seals.
We are not "allowed" to recommend much cheaper parts suppliers here on a forum sponsored by Fastlane, so we really can't comment upon your question there.
Fastlane does have exemplary customer service going for them!

Most likely you will get Elring gaskets from suppliers.

Thats an okay list if you did not open up the engine. But if you are looking for work... i would def do the main seals. despite the mileage of your engine, age has quite a powerful effect on those seals.

Try not to post about outside suppliers other than the parts retailer that supports this forum.

Yah, I understand. I just know some people say to get the cooler lines and the gaskets from MB.

The Main Seals are a tough one though. I must ponder it greatly :)

I don't really see a need to open up the engine (other then the rear main seal), What else would you say to do?

Opening up the bottom end will give you great insight into the mainenance history of the vehicle... especially the engine. Depending on where you bought the engine, it may be prudent to explore.

What about the vac pump? My old engine has a new one on it (reman I think) maybe 20k on it.

On the subject of gaskets and seals I noticed Fastlane has both Victor Reinz and Elring is one better then the other?

Replacing the rear main seal involves removing the crankshaft.
