Is this Freon R12??
Found a add on craigslist for a bottle of "freon". From the picture (attached) it looks like it read "freon 22". Would htis refridgerant be usable in an r-12 system. thanks

that looks like R-22, which is used in refrigerators and freezers and ice makers --
have *NO* idea if its compatable with R12 |

Do not put that in with R12.

Geez...
From that picture, why on earth would you want A/C? But for the record, no, R22 is not a replacement for, nor compatible with R12. And as an intereseting sidenote, "Freon" is actually Dupont's registered name for a line of refrigerants, R12 included, like "kleenex" is to facial tissue. R12 shouldn't be all that hard to get ahold of. We use it about equally compared to R134a. MV |

R-12 is abundant on E-bay and isn't that expensive either. As long as you have a refrigerant license, which I still do, it is readily obtainable...Robert

Isn't R22 what the EPA allows four ounces of to be put into our systems ( I assume with nitrogen to pressurize ) and then vented after a leak check is done ?
It is certainly not for mixing with R12 in use... but he might want to keep it for the next leak/flush that sneaks up on him... |
