Re-installing Rear View Mirror on 84 300TD

So I finally redid the sunroof and getting the headliner and all installed and the last piece to go in was the rearview mirror, however this thing will not go back in. I used my leg with my elbow sitting squarely on it and straight to give the most push I could on the rearview mirror, but dang it still wont pop back into place. What has worked for you all??

I did mine the other day.I used a rubber mallet, make sure only one side of the mirror pin is in place then use the mallet on the other side. One good enough blow should do it.
Oh by the way....Make sure to hit only the mirror base...Other wise

replace the mirror

I had to do mine on my 300CD and when I put it back I used a small hammer andd screw driver. you have to be VERY precise where the screw driver engages on the pin. I would suggest a nail set, it has a cup on the end. also a little biodiesel helped

I had to lie down across both seats and push up as hard as I can, but I have a long wingspan.

I used two rubber dead blow hammers, and a wife.

Had my wife hold mirror with one pin in the slot, then placed end of handle on the other side and whacked the head with the other hammer. took 3 tries and it snapped in.

comes off easier than it goes back on.

As BENS LOVER said in post #2 and I laid out above in post#6, use a rubber dead blow hammer.

You have to hold the pin on one side against the hole where it snaps in, use the handle end of one dead blow tight against the base. use the second one, and whack it on the head.

I have several dead blow hammers. think I used the 3 lb to whack it with.
Just don`t want to hit the glass .

I used my wife to hold it, don`t have one? grab the neighbors wife .
and be careful.

Charlie
