That is certainly true. Do the ebrakes work? I had this problem when my cable was disconnected under the car. Pull the lower panel under the dash and you can see the mechanism pretty well.

ebrakes work but I pulled the rear p/side wheel off and got down to the ebrake shoes and found that the starwheel adjuster is broken so it cannot be adjusted but I was able to back it off to the minimum and reassembled the brakes and also backed off the bolt on the pivot under the car so there is slack in the system. The light remained on but ran out of time today to look at the pedal and switch. Tomorrow.
Does anyone have a starwheel adjuster they want to sell?
This new car needs a lot of refurb and it is going to be a winter project so I will be posting regularly as I proceed.

It is bright but I notice that it dims slightly in time with the turn signals when I am using them.

that sounds pretty normal to me with the turn signal dimmage, my 240D has a dim setting for if the brake fluid is low i thought that might of been it. did you check both reservoirs and their float switches?

try that out and see if your fluid level is messing you up, that would be a lot easier than ripping apart the bottom of the dash and playing with wires.

Low fluid in the rearmost reservoir was the issue. Topped it up and lights out.
However, in my continuing inspection of this car, while pulling floor mat on the front driver side to check out the dampness there, I noticed a film of oily substance on the metal tube that runs from up on the left firewall area and across the footwell. I think it is hooked up to either the MC or the slave cylinder. It really had no smell like brake fluid does and the brakes seem firm with a good high pedal. What might this be?

seems like someone else had this problem and it was a leaking clutch cylinder.....

Check the hose from the reservoir to the master clutch cylinder first.

my 240d manual had that problem the oil was leaking into the driverside from under the dash, i beleive it was either the clutch or brakes had it replaced no problem.
