Questions on replacing brake lines and shocks

Hey all,

This weekend I am installing new Bilstein shocks, rear rubber brake lines, rear brakes, and going to bleed the brakes on my 1980 w116 300sd - had a few quick questions.

When replacing the approximately foot long rubber brake lines, should I be putting some blue loc-tite on the screw on ends? I was thinking I should, but don't want any to get in the brake lines.....

Second, what tools do I need to get the bottom of the shocks off? It looks like I need a star socket around 9mm, is that right?

Any tips on doing this job would be appreciated as well

Thanks all.

I have never considered using Loc-Tite on any brake lines and do not see a need.

No. Just an ordinary 12-point socket or box-end wrench.

Thanks for the replies.

It was late and I had a few beers when I wrote that last message, I was actually wondering what tools are required to do the FRONT shocks (doing back end system this weekend, next week doing front end).

That is the one that looked like a 9 mm star. I ask because I could not seem to get anything to fit on the bottom bolts, did not seem like I had enough room between the socket and the shock.

Am I making any sense? lol.

On W123 they are 12pt 10mm not sure they are the same but should be close. You will want a 6mm or proper shock wrench bit to keep the shock from rotating when tightening them down.

Rubber bushings on each side of the body metal.

An ordinary 12 point, 10mm wrench or socket should fit. To gain additional clearance, remove the top of the shock from the fender first, then you can tilt the shock to get additional room for the wrench.

Yes, a thin walled 12 point 10mm, on the shocks I purchased, a socket came with them. This is for the fronts only, very little room to work, the rears, just a regular 10mm socket.
No loc-tite, no gasket, no "O" ring, the sealing surface is metal to metal, not the threads.

Be careful, on the 126 the shock is part of what holds the pring in place. Make sure you support it.
