Question 60 degrees C?????

Hi folks,

I have noticed in my other Benzs that the temp seems to operate at around 80 to 85 degrees C. In my 84 300DT it never goes above 60 degrees C.

I flushed the entire system last weekend, replaced the recovery tank cap, changed out the old temperature dispaly cluster with another older one I had, tested the thermostat - it operated just fine, cleaned the old temperature sensor and refilled the system with pre mixed ELC.

The result? No change, still operates at 60 degrees C. My thoughts were that the temperature sensor must be wrong so I ordered a repalcement from Performance.

The new sensor arrived today so I installed it.

Still the same reading - 60 degrees C with a beginning (cold engine start) reading of 40 degrees C.

Should I consider myself blessed or is there another factor I am overlooking?

Thanks,
Dave H...

Use a non contact thermometer to test. You could have a bad temp sending unit, faulty guage, or bad grounding contacts in the instrument panel.
