dashboard R&R

I have a '87 300TDT I want to fix up with a replacement dashboard ( no more cracks). As I understand it, it is possible to remove the dashboard without steering wheel's removal if you can telescope the wheel all the way out. Would appreciate help in troubleshooting the telescoping function ( the lack of, that is...). When I press the switch, nothing happens. Thanks in advance.

On the 123's you can unbolt the steering column from the underside, which allows the whole column to drop down. I would guess you can do the same on a 124. I'm no help on the telescoping part.

Dont know about an 87 but on a 91 124 2.5 you have to remove the instrument cluster to get at the bolts to drop the column down.

I did two with the steering in about the middle position, not a problem (search here for the procedure). Extending the column certainly gets the cruise-control stalk further out of harm's way, but not necessary.
