Need Bosio nozzle feedback for OM606

I did a search and I could find only one brief post on the Bosio experience in the OM606 engine. I need some more feedback, specifically how they're holding up and if there's any difference in engine sound or performance compared to a good working set of German Bosch nozzles. Please share, even if you don't have an OM606 but have longer-term experience with these nozzles.

Well I guess I'll provide my own feedback. I just ordered these nozzles.

Lets us know how it goes.

I dont remember anyone having used them; the few who have had a problem either didnt need a nozzle (re-balanced) or got a new factory inj.

I will. I believe my nozzles are still original (German-made Bosch). They sprayed OK last time I checked a couple years ago, but one of them later clogged and I had to disassemble and clean it. The engine seems to run OK but there's some pinging at light throttle when the engine is cold, especially at higher RPM's. There's also an occasional ping at highway speeds even when the engine is warm, but otherwise the engine is a quiet sewing machine. I'll report my impression of the Bosio nozzles after I get them installed. Give me about a week or two...

Alright, so I got the Bosios installed. Unfortunately my injector tester stopped working so I didn't get a chance to test and compare the spray pattern of the new nozzles vs. the old. As I half-expected the idle now is very loud, especially when the engine is cold. I hope it quiets down within a few hundred miles. Above 1200 RPM or so the engine is as quiet as before. I haven't noticed the highway ping so far. Hopefully that's gone for good, but the high-RPM, cold-engine, light-throttle pinging is still there (probably a compression / high altitude issue). Didn't notice any appreciable difference in acceleration. BTW, those old nozzles I had in there were French Bosch, not German as I had thought. I wonder if those were original or not.

I'll give another update after 500 miles or so. Hopefully the idle will quiet down and the on-highway, light-throttle pinging won't return.

I feel the idle is already getting quieter. Yesterday when I got home from work the hot idle was almost back to normal, though fast and cold idle are still loud, and in my experience with other fuel-related work like delivery valves, are the last to quiet down. There might be a slight performance improvement with these nozzles on second thought, but it's not huge by any means and it's not supposed to be. I'm just not very good at telling minor differences in acceleration. I'm much better at analyzing engine sound.

I hope my posts in this thread are interesting or useful to someone here and I'm not just posting my own diary here.

... and you have installed the Bosio nozzles from KermaTDI?

I keep putting off servicing my injectors and am at the same time leary about the lack of German manufactured Bosch nozzles.

Yes, I bought them from KermaTDI. I'm leery of the India-made Bosch nozzles as well and that's why I went this route. There's also the option of Monark nozzles but I had trouble finding the ones for my engine. ************** sells them for the older engines. Those are German-made and supposedly top-notch quality like Bosio, maybe even better but it's hard to say. Not enough people have tried these aftermarket nozzles.

Just curious... without using an injector tester are you just assuming the pop pressure is correct? I've always assumed you need to check that. Is it considered acceptable to just change the nozzles and put back together?

I would really like to have new nozzles put on mine, but really struggle with the idea of sending them out for over a week. If I could just change the nozzles that would be great!

They ought to be pop tested and balanced first. New heat sheilds should be used every time they are removed too.

Oftentimes a diesel truck injector/pump shop can do them or of course a Bosch service center.

I bought some Made in Germany Monark brand Injector Spray Nozzles from Sean C Watts and they have been in my car for about 3 Months now. The price is resonable;the preformance is stock.
Something else I do not like about the stock nozzles. Take a look at the pic and see the drilled holes in the pintels. I have 2 sets of injectors at home that have these little holes completely plugged with carbon. The Monarks to not have these hole and do the same thing without the holes.

Besides the pop testing when they rebuild the injectors part if what they do is to lap all of the interior mateing surfaces not to mention they get a better cleaning and will most likely be assembled in a cleaner environment.
If the area where the Spray Nozzle Pintel seats is worn out just replacing them with new Spray Nozzles will help only that part of the problem (Diesel Gaint has pic an text on how to do this).
As you indicted the pop pressures will be unknow and for sure the results will not balanced set of Injectors. Also if dirt gets between the mating surfaces or the surfaces do not seal properly they can leak between the injector nut and the injector body.
In the last 30 days I have bought 2 sets of Injectors (I pulled them myself) from the junk yard and both times they were $4.95 each + tax. If you did this you could send the junkyard set to the shop to be rebuilt while the other set stays in your car until they get back. Anyway those are my thoughts.

I've been happy with the Bosio nozzles in my TDI. I have a set waiting to go into my ECOdiesel, and when the time comes I'll get a set for the SDL.
