Rack dampener questions.

I suspect my rack dampener is the culprit to my shaky engine. (84 300sd) I have removed it from the injection pump and it is gold. However, it does not look like any of the photos of gold rack dampeners i have found on this forum. The one from my engine also seems to be lacking a spring. Thinking this could not be right, i removed the dampener from my spare injection pump and it was identical.
It too did not have a spring. Does anyone have any insight as to why this would be?

Thanks

Rory

The spring is internal. Where did you get it?

There is no resistance to the plunger on either rack dampener pins. They both move in and out however there is no spring action. It does not look like either of these. It is slightly similar. It has a thin nut that is part of the housing between the two threaded parts. a large cap goes over the end that sticks out of the injection pump.

I think you're going to have to take a photo and post it.

The above photo is the only type of rack dampener on the 617. The spring is internal and resists the movement of the plunger.
