Help- w201 drivers seat

My drivers seat is completely shot. the PO weighed about 400lbs and the bottom springs are all broken and the lumbar support area of the seat is completely caved in.

I have resorted to sitting on a couch cushion for elevation and I used a mesh net thing for the back. There's even pool noodles stuffed in the bottom .

My back is killing me.

Are w201 seats (right / left) interchangeable?

What about W124 seat? will they fit a w201?

Do you guys have any suggestions?

I am willing to put in any kind of non-MB seats that might fit.

Parts are interchangable between the driver's and passenger's front seats. I swapped the upholstry on the seat bottom between the 2 with them being identical. I didn't have any structural problems so I didn't try anything else. If the upholstry works, then it stands to reason that the base springs would also work althouth it may require drilling a few holes? Don't know if these can still be purchased at the dealer, but if so you might check to see if they have the same part number.

Driver's seat back has the arm rest, but it may be possible to swap it also with a little modification. Cars are fairly common in the junk yards with all the 190E's. Might be easier to find a replacement there?

Swap the seat cushion only from the passenger seat. There are a lot of w201/190e gas cars in the JY with almost perfect passenger cushion. I just swapped one for my 190D with the same color match for next to nothing, $10 to be exact. It was a bit fiddly but the end result is great. I would put a sofa cushion for lumber support.

I assume the w201 seat and the w123 seats are designed more or less the same way.

I found a passenger seat in a 83 240D that was almost perfect. I use it for my drivers seat which was in bad shape in our 80 240D.

Had to swap over the seat tracks from the 80. also had to swap over the seat belt track.
The pass seat has the black knob for the seat back adjustment on the right side, and I swapped it to the left side. Pull the knob off, there is a "C" clip and a white plastic piece. think I pulled it off and it fits onto the other side as I remember.

Take pictures and notes as you dissassemble things, so you know how it all goes back together. forget this "Oh I`ll remember how that peice goes on". yeah right.

There is a threaded hole to mount the arm rest in the frame. just cut the MB Tex and bolt it up.

MB made the seat frames all the same so they can be used on either side, cuts down manufacturing costs.

I see a lot of W201`s in the yards with perfect seat as well as the W124`s. W123`s are getting far and few with good interior.
