low mileage W116 300SD

I saw a W116 300SD thats for sale. Its in absolute like-new condition, still even has what appears to be original tires. The inside is black, outside is what I would call a dark-gray/gun metal color. Paint and inside are perfect. The mileage from what I see is just over 5600 miles. Yes, 5-thousand, 600 miles. The wood, interior, everything looks great... so I'm curious as what you guys think is a good offer for such a car?

That would bring a good price

However, to bring an absolute top price it would have to have substantial paper work with it from day one. Without the paper, that mileage might be tough to verify.

$8000. Start at $4500 go to $8000. Worth $12,000. Comps: 1987, 300sdl, 78000 miles, just ended on ebay, 20 bids, $11,600, did not met reserve. 1987 420sel, 74,000 miles, perfect, at local classic car dealer, asking $11,500, too much. 1990 420sel, 2,300 miles, asking price $16,500, spoke with seller after sold, got asking price. Members of this forum advised it was worth $20,000 to $25,000, reference my 12-05-06 posting.

There's lots of paperwork for the car, receipts, books and so on. Problem is I don't know what to offer as its not an every-day car. A W116 300SD with 5,600 miles is not a car you see often. Its not my car... but from the looks of it, its as good as "new" in terms or appearance in and out.

Wow... that is truly incredible. Other than possibly rotted rubber and maybe rust inside the mechanical parts from not being driven, it would be just like a brand new car! I think this is one that should be in a museum, possibly the one owned by Mercedes-Benz. I'd offer to buy it, but seeing as I can barely afford the 1979 300SD I got for free, I better not.

OK, I uploaded pictures of the car to my album.

The price will surely be much more than $8000. I just want to prepare myself for what to expect to pay for such an example. This is not a daily driver car.. nor is the plan to have it as a daily driver.

That's a pure time machine.........absolutely stunning. I'm quite confident that it can sell for $20K on e-bay. The price is basically unlimited........there are no 5000 mile W-116's left to choose from.

What you should offer is strictly your own decision, but, anything less than $12K would really be insulting to the seller............and would be game over for you.

Absolutely stunning. Probably the nicest privately owned W116 SD in the US.

15-20k conservatively is what I would pay for it.

Agreed. If I got it for $15K, I'd consider it a steal.

The only problem is that you can't really drive it.........the value is in the mileage...........it's relegated to a garage queen.

You'd need a truck and trailer to haul it around. It would be fun winning concourse competition with a 300SD.

It's very pretty. You could prob make money just selling photos showing how everything was supposed to look like when it came from the factory.

I'd expect some things to not work (work for long) or to need immediate maint because its set for so long unused.

The engine compartment has been detailed with Armoral; its being sold by a dealer?

Id probably drive it. Not a daily driver, but id drive it. It wasnt built to sit in a garage.

The way i look at it for 15k you can get a car that is not only brand new, but has more class than any car you can buy today, is one of the most reliable cars ever made, is efficient, comfortable, big, and luxurious.

Thats a pretty good deal for even $20k
