Trans X - Leave it in or drain it out?
So what do you think? Leave Trans X in the transmission or drain it out?

Don't use it at all except in a junker you need to stretch a few more miles out of.

The best thing to do is to repace the pan gasket, clean out the oil pan with a cloth and replace the filter that it dont was waste your money on snake oil (trans X)...

I put Trans-X in my transmission before I pulled the pan, drained the ATF, and put in a new filter, and fluid. I put it in and ran the car for a while to get the Trans-X flushed throughout the trans. Maybe it helped, or maybe it was just the new fluid. I was having flaring problems previous to putting it in, and now the trans shifts good. It should clean the varnish off the trans internals, which should help keep the transmission in good working order. What's a few bucks if it doesn't work.

Seals cost more than a few bucks to replace.

Were not talking about seals. Trans-X is supposed to clean out the transmission. Mine was leaking before I put any Trans-X in, and it's not leaking anymore than it was previously.

My opinion:
If it's already running in there, leave it in. Reason? The solvents in Trans X (and many auto-trans additives) will soften and swell the seals to get the transmission internal seals to seal and hold proper pressure / shift properly. The transmission seals will set at this new dimension while you run it. If you replace the fluid with a fluid that does not cause the seals to swell as much as they currently are, you will likely have internal leaks = low pressures which will cause it to flare, to slip, to not shift at idle, and generally act impolitely when cold. Once it's in there, leave it in there. It's best to not change the chemistry dramatically if there isn't a good reason to do so.

Maybe I read your post wrong. I was reading that it would cause the seals to go bad. So spending the few bucks to on a bottle of Trans-x would cause many more dollars in seals.

Additives are a waste of money. There is no magical "mechanic in a can."
"So spending the few bucks to on a bottle of Trans-x" is exactly the kind of thinking they want to keep income flowing. |

So what would you propose to clean varnish off the tranmission internals?

why would there be varnish inside a transmission? only if it's overheated, there are no combustion gasses in there. proper fluid drain intervals, and good filter changes are all that's needed.
