Hi CTH,
Probably better to measure from the center of the crank pulley to the top of the rocker and then from the center of the crank pulley to the bottom of the oil pan. The centerline of the crank pulley should be near where the original one was to keep the same drive line angles.

Looking at the oil filter for a moment, the large upright canister interfers with the steering box based on how I have the motor casually sitting in the engine compartment. Perhaps when all is done, it will be OK.
Looking at the EPC, the W126 M110 and R107 M110 have the same oil filter setup, namely a cansister pointing forward on the side of the motor. Looking at the OM617 pictures on the EPC, the 617.910, non-turbo motor from the 240D 3.0 and others has a similar, forward pointing oil filter. The pictures of the two gaskets are different, and the oil filter housing for the diesel has relief valves and other bits in it. I presume that the non-turbo filter housing can't be used with the turbo motor. Helping that guess along is a pipe shown in another picture that seems to be the oil supply (or return) connecting the turbo to the oil filter housing. A quick read of section 18 of the engine manual pretty much confirms that too. Thx -CTH |

Good point on my measuring mistake. I need to subtract the space available between the bottom of the lower oil pan and the bottom of the upper pan.
I think between making the cover a little lower (with the hope of not touching the flying chain at 4,500 rpm) and spacers under the subframe, that perhaps I'll have the room. Lexxani, I've been watching that other thread. These two threads started about the same time and he's using the more recent deisel. Thx -CTH |
