240D Traction
Hey all! I did a search before hand, and didn't really find what I was looking for, anyways,
Today with no one around I made a fast and hard turn on a wet road and witnessed a huge skid/slide in my 240D. (it was pretty fun ) Once I got home I started wondering, does the 240D have any traction control at all? Does it have ABS? I went on the internet to educate myself more on Traction Control, ESP ect.... and I found this video on youtube... After watching it, I felt a bit bummed out, because I think my car would have failed all those haha.. Am I right? I know they use a new jag with all those features, but if those situations came up, and I was in my 240D would I have to wait for the ice to melt? Would I have crashed as bad as he did? Thanks everyone! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JcQaHhSMGKM

It has no traction assist or ABS at all. Open differential (not limited slip)....you're on your own.

The traction control system on a 240D consists of a power plant that won't hardly spin the tires even on a wet surface....... {coupled of course with the weight of the car}

It's all good, I thankfully havn't had any problems driving without all that, I notice you guys are from snowy places and places with much rain.
How did your Benz's do in those kind of conditions? Any horror stories? I imagine not much can happen since you don't really go that fast in that type of weather, black ice though....that scares me!! haha Don't get any of that cool weather here in annoyingly sunny palm springs..

Mine does great. I know a big empty parking lot where I love to do donuts and slides after a snow.

The W123 rear wheels easily lose traction, the simple semi-trailing arm with no upper control arms aren't the best in terms of planting the wheel on the ground. The W124, on the other hand, and consequently, the W201, had the multi-link setup, which is a step up from the W123 design.
One thing I like about the W123 design is even if it's not as good as the W124, it's still predictable and will let you know.

Yeah, when I had my w124 it was firm on the ground, couldn't really slide at all. The w123 has been more fun and I know what you mean when you say it's predictable. It's a great little car Can't wait to try it out in some snow this winter up in the mountains. Slippin n slidin

Very predictalbe, safe handling. The car is perfectly balanced so if you reach the maximum of traction it just begins moving sideways with no drama. Lose speed and it stops drifting.
Perfect. Tom W
