Floor mats - safe to machine wash?
Just wondering. Seems a lot easier than scrubbing out the stains...

I threw mine from the Ford in the washer before winter. They came out just fine. I'm about to do it again to get all the dry salt out of 'em.

I wouldn't throw them in the washer, unless you have one of those front loading units. What I have done is soak the mats in the bath tub, I let them soak for a day, then I scrubed and rinsed very well. The mats looked liked new when I was done...

Machine wash yer mats!
Old thread I know. After being cut-off by a BMW driver earlier this week (what's the difference between a BMW driver and a porcupine?), and spilling a large coffee all over the passenger side floormat, I decided to machine wash all four floormats.
I'm not positive that my mats are OEM. I highly doubt they're original...but they look like something that the MB dealership would sell. Regardless, they came out pretty good and clean. The coffee stain is gone. All the dirt is gone with the exception of the old roadgrime/oil stains that just accumulates due to use. Definite improvement and I will likely machine wash them again. Washed with cold water and tumble dry'd w/ low heat for 30 minutes, then no heat for 30 minutes.

i take them out, and i spray a degreaser on them and hit them with a pressure washer....ive been detailing for years and this is the way i clean floor mats:
1.spray degreaser liberally on floor mats(like simple green). Allow to sit for a minute or so. 2.pressure wash mats 1 at a time on a medium pressure. wash pushing all of the dirt/excess water forward and to the sides.(you will see all of the dirt/mud coming off) you do not want to miss a spot(i think of it similar to cutting grass.) 3. use an ice scraper to squigee off excess water, and hang mats up to air dry.

Hey, Hey! Two weeks ago I would have resented that remark. Got anything to say about people who sparingly drive Jeeps too?
I've washed my floormats in the machine before, but would never risk putting them in the dryer.

I'm a BMW driver. Actually I am a real BMW driver. Not a poser. I know of the types you talk of , however. They give the rest of us a bad name, showing off to the world that they actually can't drive. they also make the car look pretty tacky. While I can be found most weekends at a scca or bmwcca event with my real driver's car.
Also, I consider myself a MB driver as well. I can tell you that there are people out there that give us MB drivers a bad name also. they also make the car look tacky. We can generalize on many different things, lets just not do it. |

I saw a late model BMW 3 series with a Hammer-esque tail, body kit, the whole package. Dent on every panel, curb rash, road rash. No surprise there.
I see plenty others with spoilers that make we want to put slap a road runner sticker on. There's even one 300CD in my local parts yard with one!

Yes, but stereotypes make for such good humor.
*edit* When in good taste.

I used to live in an area (yuppie ville) that had a lot of BMWs and most were driven by people who thought they were performance drivers just because of the car they had even though they didn't have a clue. The BMW drivers in the area I'm in now seem to be a lot better. Now the big problem is the posers in their ricers with all the body kits and loud exhaust that drive like they are afraid if they get up to speed all that stuff will start to fall off.
At the same time I think BMW makes some great cars and I wouldn't mind having one.
