Permatex Ultra Grey

Permatex Ultra Grey is what my Indie recommended to use on the upper pan.

I just removed and replaced my upper pan, this is what was on it from metric Motors. also they used a thin coat of it on the lower pan along with the gasket.

Don`t get carried away with the stuff. I think the directions said to use a 1/8 IN. bead of it.

Any form-a-gasket should work, they work basically the same some are for different environments though. IMO I like Permatex Ultra Blue/Black works well and relatively inexpensive.

sealant

The FSM (Or the EPC)will have a part number
(It'll be a Loctite/Permatex product)

The Yamaha tri-bond sounds interesting...

I ended up using Permatex Anerobic sealant along with the primer that it calls for when I put my m117 back together, so far no leaks.
That's only been 5k miles ago, though.

Here's the MB sealant. I've never had anything leak that I used it on. I just spread it on thinly with my finger. Part# A003 989 98 20 10.

Just make sure the area is free of oil for the bond to adhere (clean area with acetone) and it is a bit messy if use too much.

The other recommendation is to use 3M scotch grip 1300 yellow sealant. Again no silicon to break free and get into the oil pump screen. But the Motorcycle THREEBOND casing sealant is what I would use first.
Oops, I just started a thread on replacing the upper oil pan gasket, then I did a search.

Good advice.

I used #2 Permatex on mine, which I've used for years on all my engines. I know it's old school, but works.
