That sounds like a deal to me. I bet its something simple. Worth much more than that in parts.

Instead of beating on the trunk with a board to pop the lock, check out FUNOLA trick.

Thanks! I thought I remembered seeing that before.

I am a little confused by it because I don't know parts involved that well, but I will worry about that when/if I have the car in my possession!

I am going to look at this car and possibly purchase it tomorrow. Any last tips, perhaps what to listen for when cranking the starter or anything else?

I have bought a couple MB diesels before, and looked at a couple others, but never a non-running one.

Any tips appreciated.

Yep and don't feel bad about it... You don't know what the outcome will be after all. I'd bet it's going to be easier/better than you think but you never know. So... buy cheap.

I bought my 87 300d for $500 with the same scenario... dead battery, would hardly crank with a jump... no clue if the trans was ok... no clue... anything. They said $900... I offered $500 since I didn't know what I was getting.

Other than rubber being shot from sitting, the windows having issues, few other things that have driven me nuts, it's been a great car. It runs great.

Now I hardly drive it because I've been running my old ugly 6.2 suburban on veg oil (new two tank setup). So my 2 MB's sit in the driveway.
