I need to resurrect the A/C in our W123 TD and a while back there was a screaming from the a/c compressor, not sure if it was the clutch or something internal. Unplugging one of the two wires to the clutch stopped the noise, disabling the compressor. I'd like to consider a sanden swap if it is the wisest choice.

I have read this thread front to back and it seems there is an outfit on ebay selling compressor and mount, there are some factory parts found in a PNP, and then there is the euro cooler air place in Texas.

Any other solid info?

I am still uncertain which compressor I have. I guess its about time to get a picture of it right?

Thumbs up

Here is what I would do since your R4 is dead:

Look what I discovered... Sanden swap instructions on 616/617s

Well, if you have the R4.

Thanks. I guess at this point I should really know what I have. This is for my 1983 W123 300TD.

I will get a look at it, get a pic and provide better info.

edit: thanks already on that thread. Not clear what the instructions are or the availability of the parts listed. The first post shows a part diagram, but that is all.

Well if you have an 83 300D, then you have the R-4 GM compressor, or some call the hocky Puck. you can see the thing looking down under the power steering, or from under the front of the car on the drivers side. look up and there it is.

Hello, i can see that this bracket is new. What is the price?
I also saw an old model, could that be good too?
I am trying to install A/C to my euro w123 240D and the compressor is looking like yours.

Thank you!

Other than its "opposed twin" low speed shake, and supposed "incompatibility" with R134, is there a reason NOT to use a new York? Wouldn't a new York have seal materials compatible with R134 anyway?

a York leeches 19 hp -is the word.
a sanden uses 7 hp

It does take a different bracket than the r4 unit too. For what it is worth the s/n was 0501306780.
This post was a huge help as the part number is missing off the unit I have.

Know how many pistons in this 9263?

How robust are they? The system was disconnected supposedly because of a bad expansion valve.

Did the aforementioned Euro have a parallel flow condenser?

Thank you in advance!

P.S. : really like how the high and low ports are right on the back. On the California OM, the high side means you have to leave the air filter off and don't hook up on a hot engine as right next to the exhaust. Here in the desert, don't like having to run the engine without a filter.
