Question Green Brake Fluid ?

I was checking the brakes on my '97 E300D this evening and discovered the brake fluid was green. I haven't really checked the brakes out on the car since I got it some 6,000 miles or so ago because they have always worked fine. I always use a high quality Valvoline synthetic brake fluid and have never run into green brake fluid before. I'm going to flush it out with some new clear Valvoline but what is the "green", how did it happen, and is there some problem I should be checking for?

The only brake fluid colors I know of are amber, clear, blue and gold. If yours is green you probably have an algae bloom in the fluid. That's the answer I've heard before. Your fluid absorbs moisture and that moisture can actually support algae growth in some cases.

Flush your fluid and you should be fine.

ATE Makes a blue fluid, which is great when flushing. I swap between the 2 colors so I know I have fresh fluid.

Green sounds contaminated to me.
