There are about 4 cables I took off my transmission when I removed it. The hook-up for the starter lock. The electronic vs mechanical speedometer. The kick-down cable. And I was told there was one more on the 85 tranny.

My 722.120 transmission that I had hope to use only had a hook up for the mechanical speedometer cable. The 722.303 electrical sender would not fit on the 120, so it was incompatitble. I worried the same would happen if I didn't use an 84.

Thumbs up

SOME '85 cars (such as my 300SD) still have an '84 style trans WITH the '85 emission stuff added. The '85 only have a different pan with gasket too. I basically have a CA emission car from '84 and older.

'85s also sound diff at idle and seem to have a leaner calibrated IP.

Stick with something you know will fit properly.

Thanks for the info. I know the 83 I ordered will physically fit, bolt in and be functional. I'm just hoping I won't have to swap anything, but I won't know for sure until I recieve it.

You should look for a 722.315 out of the 300d Turbo (1985) then. That has a mechanical drive. The 722.120 was out of the w116 300SD's.

Good deal. '85s also have different starters for different emissions. So I just order '84 stuff for my SD
