Top Speed?

Just wondering what the highest speed anybody has brought their diesel car up to? I just buried the needle on my 82 300D last night in a test. (>200KM/H)

These cars seem to be alot more capable than I thought. I have also taken it offroading in the local Off Highway vehicle park and it was alot of fun. Seem to have a ton of ground clearance for a sedan.

Don't forget to factor in speedometer error. It can be pretty off at triple-digit speeds.

The wagons handle even better off road.

I have hit 110mph in my old euro NA 300D.

114MPH, downhill, at like 5000ish rpm......the 617 sounds like a small jet turbine at those speeds. Its been a long time since I went that fast though, in recent years I've only gone to about 95-100 or so....I'm afraid I'll blow something at those speeds, and I have no money to fix it right now. Also, no money for tickets.

My dad's SD has done the same.

I've taken our 300D to 110 or so

~ 140 mph...

Now that the IP is tweaked, and the maximum rpm is increased significantly (6.5K rpm, no load), I could theoretically reach on a long downward mountain slope: 160 mph, factoring in TC slippage. Not without a proper setup would I attempt such great velocities.

Unfortunately, an '82TD speedo only goes to 85 mph. Been there regularly.

Ive gotten my 85 to 115mph under its own power, 125 downhill. The sd probably tops at 100 with its rear end.

Slow, only about 110-120. 120 takes a long, long time. Really the top speed on an SDL is like 105-110, you have to really want those extra few MPH.

If you floor my friends S600 at 110 it down shifts.

I was cranking along, all happy that my old diesel was in the triple digit range. Here comes the M120, loafing as my 603 was giving all its worth. Like an F22 passing a DC3.
