SLS high pressure hose replacement

My linkage fell off the lever near the control valve assembly and made my wagon's tail fully raise. I knew what happened immediately, but I was late for soccer practice with the kids so I left it as it. I drove there and back (6 miles RT) and by the time I got home SLS fluid was everywhere underhood. It caused the high pressure line to fail. Fluid would spray out a very small hole. I zip-tied the linkage back on. I went to the hose shop and removed the hose, they replaced the rubber hose with my hose ends. Re-install, add fluid and drive away. Total cost was $24 for the hose plus two liters of febi fluid. Works as intended.

"Crotchety Man" saves the day!

Wow ... you paid $24 total for the hose AND 2 liters of FEBI fluid?
If so, you got an AMAZING deal.

Zip ties are a stock item in my tool box too.

$24 for the hose, plus two liters of which I used 1.5 liters, so closer to $50 really. Yeah for both at $24 it would be the deal of the week.

Still a good deal.

I was hoping you found a source for $5 liters of FEBI. I would have had them ship me a case.

That is a great price Crotchety Man!!! Your SLS super powers worked well!
I'm shocked that riding fully raised like that stresses the hoses/system, but the proof would appear to be under your hood earlier.
Can you believe how much those stupid linkage arms are???
Crotchety Man needs to work on that issue.....

Man you got a great price. Nice! Did they braise new fittings on the end pieces or just unscrew them and screw another hose piece on with matching size metal theads?

Yep, we could all share in something like that!

My SLS hose failed when driving from the take out of the San Juan river at Clay Hills crossing while pulling a trailer filled with rafting gear. There are LOTS of steep dry washes to drive thru on that road where the car had climbed the hill and was pulling the trailer up the steep climb. I figured this was putting lots of pressure on the SLS because the whole load of the trailer was essentially pulling down on the back bumper. I think it was the last straw for an aging hose.

I think that's what caused it, but it could have failed because it's 26 years old.... The linkage arm issue is a zip tie fix because the new ones are a MB part- ouch. The ends have the plastic on them and that's what fails, not the metal arm itself. Use double zip ties and replace them every few years, or even use twisty bread ties, or fishing single strand wire. I'm sure the guy said the new hose just screwed right in. Took about 15 minutes at the hose shop. I put on additional hose protection also as the original was near the end of it's life span. You have to remove the pump side first it appears as the other end needs to rotate. You also need a adjustable wrench or a pliers to hold the end as the hose end is a 19mm, but the metal end is bigger than a 10 but smaller than a 13, and MB's tool kit does not come with a 11 or 12 IIRC.
