So.. how do you get the fan clutch removed on a W210 E300?

I just cannot figure this out. I found out how to get the fan off. I just don't know how to remove the fan clutch.

Can someone tell me how?

I've not done it so take this for what its worth.

There is a port on the water pump shaft where a special tool (90* bent rod) can be inserted to hold the fan shaft while the bolt is loosened.

Are the NA and turbo versions different? My '96 does not have a water pump like you describe, Terry, at least I've never seen the "port" on the shaft. I found that I can use the serpentine belt as a crude "strap wrench" to hold the pulley while loosening the center 8mm Allen head cap screw that holds the fan and fan clutch to the pulley. Unclipping the fan shroud and placing it over the fan helps make room for the Allen wrench and a 2-foot length of 1/2 inch iron pipe makes a nice extender for the Allen wrench.
