Here's a thread with pics from when I replaced my cowl drain tubes. It shows where they attach to the firewall. I believe Bryan is referring to the area under the cowl drain grills that leads to the rubber cowl drain tubes.

I was talking about the tube that collects water from the base of the passenger side wiper and directs it over to the passenger side grill area. You have to remove the both grilles and the wiper motor cover to get at it. It attaches to the passenger side wiper shaft under the wiper motor cover. I cleaned the tube, removed the stock foam gasket in this area and (carefully) squirted some form-a-gasket on the mating surface before I re-assembled it. I also smeared a light coating of grease on the back side of the wiper motor cover where the tube fits to prevent the form-a-gasket from sticking to the cover if I ever have to take it apart again.

It seems to be working great, we had some heavy rains the past few days and the heater no longer squirts water.

If you take a look at this exploded diagram, this is the tube that everyone is talking about.

I'd like to know how to get that motor cover off. I know there are 4 fasteners visible when you open the hood but how do they pull out (I have minimal tools) - will grabbing them with pliers and wiggling them work ??

So, this drain pipe is under the motor shelf right ??

Remove the two grilles as Chad describes, then there are two phillips screws at the rear of the cover and four at the front of the cover under the hood. You also need to remove a thin 19mm nut on the right wiper shaft.

The "four at the front" are not screws on my car, they are some sort of plastic fastener.

Any idea how these are taken off (preferably without damage either to them or the car) ?

Read Chad's thread. He describes how to remove the plastic fasteners.

He is talking about the fasteners that hold on the metal wiper motor cover, not the plastic grilles. On my car they are Phillips screws, but not on his car for some reason.

They are kind of like a rivet / push stud in plastic black.

Maybe because mine's a UK car.

Can you post pictures? It would be nice to see what you're dealing with.

Sure.

Here's a pic I took a while ago.

I would go out and take a closer one, but it's 11pm over here and pitch black outside !

Just use a thin screwdriver or wooden stick to push in the central pins, like the grille clips
