I need to do that on my 81 300SD. Your picture looks like my SD climate control switch. Was it much problem? How much did you have to take apart? How long did it take? Seems I was told to remove the ashtray, radio, and wood cover to get to it; feels like a lot of work. All of my lights on the wood cover are not working - AC, antenna, etc.

Nice pictorial, wish we had more.

Only one comment: The "black wires" and "LEDs" are actually fiber-optics, there is a central "spider" and bulb behind the panel, good idea to replace if you have it open. New bulbs are always brighter than old blackened ones.

Be careful about the bulb wattage. Two identical looking bulbs. One is 3 watt and that will melt plastics in this unit. The right one is a 1.2 watt. The 3 watt is brighter but not worth the problems the melting will cause.
