300D shut off during driving, won't start

I was driving my 81 D today and the engine shut off as I was starting an uphill. It had been been low on fuel, but shouldn't have run out. I got it towed home and put more fuel in the tank, as well as some fuel in the filters (they were not dry and quite full). After cranking it and cranking it, recharging the battery some more, and cranking some more, I still can't get the car to start.
I'm starting to think it's the fuel pump. If you have any words of wisdom, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

Loosen some of the Injector Hard Lines Nuts up by the Injectors and after your battery is recharged crank the Engine and when the air is out of the Hard Lines you will see fuel spurting.
Tighten the Nuts on the Hard Lines and give the battery 10 minutes rest or recharge it on the charger and try to start.

might want to check and see if your fuel lines at the tank end were reversed.

I.E its sucking through the return and returning through the strainer.
