B100 cost?

It's time to fill up. I wanted to try a tank of B100 so I called the only
place that sells it in town......5.30 per gallon!!!? The next place is
50 miles away so I didn't even bother calling them. I pay 3.99 now
for #2. Sheesh, I thought B100 would be a little more, but THAT much more??. Is this the norm around the country? I would have paid up to 75 cents per gallon more, but a buck and a third,uh,no. I really wanted
to burn a tank just for "le differ-ance" as my original intent was to burn
WVO when I first purchased the TD. After hanging about here and learning, I'd NEVER do that now, as this car, well cared for, will likely
last the rest of my life:cool:, so I don't want to bugger it up. Darn, I really
wanted to have a better smelling vehicle from time to time,

seems to be why alternative fuels have not taken over the market. Cost...

NoSpark,
You can make it yourself for about $1.25 per. The drawback is collecting the oil and the time to process. My 84 300SD loves the stuff!

Here in Santa Rosa, Rotten Robbie is selling B20 for the same price as D2, currently just under $4 per gallon. B20 (20% biodiesel, 80% petrodiesel) has enough bio in it to eliminate the lubrication problems iof ULSD and also removes the "diesel stink" (and yes, many of us here like that unique odor – sorry).

Yup....run the B20 and get lots of benefits. Better lubrication, less pollution, and more power. The power curve for Bio does not drop off until approaching 40 to 50%.

Around here B100 is only available in bulk purchase (delivered or picked up) and costs nearly $6 a gallon. Crazy.

I biodiesel station just opened up near my house. I filled up one of my cars there for $5/gal for B100, then went back a few days later with another of my cars and they had raised the price to $5.40.

- 2 cents worth -

I paid $5.23 a gallon @Haycock Petroleum Las Vegas, NV. That was 509 miles ago and I have 3/4 tank remaining. I switch over to WVO once my 85 300SD gets to >80 degrees Celsius. The smell is not so good and WVO can stubbornly stain concrete and paving bricks. The trunk is unusable for anything other than tools and WVO containers.

Making Biodiesel in a suburban enclave is risky. The chemicals are toxic and flammable. The footprint required is considerable. A cooperative of enthusiasts with a rural or industrial setting is more appropriate. Nevertheless, Bio is the best way to go. Better lubricity, cleaning properties and all season viscosity make Bio the champ.

I settled on a 2 tank diesel/WVO setup because I could get the whole shooting match up for less than $4000. Filtration is a challenge and grist for other threads. The great WVO boogeyman, engine oil polymerization, has not occurred. My belcher is carbon neutral and doesn't financially sustain human right abusers and murderers; and that was the point of the whole exercise.

Some our Shop Forum purists consider putting WVO in an turbo-injected MB as a desecration of a work of art. I stand behind no one in my admiration for these aforementioned craftsmen. We just have a difference of opinion.
