bumper material?

I found a nice euro 300 today, got glass hellas with wipers and a three piece front euro. so i switched to euros on my coupe. I was looking at the US bumpers and if Im not mistaken it looks like a solid chunk of aluminum. are these aluminum? i bet that things worth 40-50 dollars at the recycle yard, i can only get my $5 deposit back from the yard. anybody know for sure?

Its some kind of alloy. Its not steel, too light. Its not ordinary aluminum...too hard. Try drilling a hole in it.

I thought thes things were aluminium also. the one that was on the 85 when we bought it back in 97, had the chrome lifting off on the corners.
It was like salt or whatever had gotten under the chrome.

so when the loose pieces came off on the corners, and the stuff started lifting off in the enter, it was time for a new one.

I found an almost perfect one off an 80 at PNP. those things are about 1/4 in thick. the one off the 85, Mb cheapened them down I guess to save weight. the best part is I got it for free, they over looked it.

but anyway, the way the old bumper was corroding it looks like the way aluminium corodes with the white chulky stuff. so I vote Aluminium.

that`s my long winded 2¢

Charlie
