84 300D Front Passenger Seat Removal
How is this done? I tried following the procedure in the manual, and it just doesn't match my car. I have the front bolts out, but rear attachment seems impossible to access and remove.

Put the seat both all the way forward and all the way up to access the back bolts. In other words, use both the side lever and the front lever and get the seat as far forward/up as possible. It often requires someone pushing the seat from behind while another person activated the lever to get the seat up since that adjustment is not used that often.

Am I trying to undo the phillips head screws that attach the seat frame to the rails? or am I trying to remove the rails as well? The procedure in the manual directs removal of the rails. And to be honest, I can't even see, let alone access, the bolts in the back.

On my '83 300D, it's pretty straightforward. Push seat forward, undo two 12mm bolts, push seat back, undo other two 12mm bolts. Takes less than 5 min on my car.

You want to remove the rails. Follow my previous instructions to expose the bolts that hold the rails to the floor.

All of the w123 and w126 front seats that I have removed from the car have a total of five 10mm bolts holding the seat to the car frame. The bolts are 2 in the front, 2 in the back, and 1 on the seat belt guide\reinforcing thingy.
It takes a bit getting to the back bolts on a w126 (electrical seats) in the junkyard, but it can be done. I have a BENT 10 mm box wrench that I use along with various combinations of sockets, ratchets, long & short extensions, swivel unit, etc. Just HOPE that the clip holding the nut under the frame is intact. With w126 seats, REMEMBER to undo the wires before lifting the seat out. And if you don't want to scuff up the console becareful with the seatbelt guide\reinforcing thingy.

Like Kerry said, to access the rear bolts you have to slide the seat all the way forward, and then all the way up in height. I usually have to spray some lube into the tracks to the the height adjustment to work. The height adjustment lever is the one on the side, you pull it up and the try sliding the seat forward. After you put some lube in there, you'll probably have to work it back and forth until you get it far enough forward.

I wasnt able to get my seat to move forward so I used a little sledge hammer and got it to move forward enough to access those bolts, that was after using all other recommended techniques, good luck with your quest for removal

You can lead them to water, but you can't make them think....
I got the seats out, now I'm trying to remove the foundation from the seat frame. I took out the four "easy" screws, but there are either one or two screws left to remove (in the middle of one or both rails). One side slides and cocks the rails askew from the seat, so I'm not sure what's going on there. But I don't know how to access the screw on the other side. There seems to be a covering over the large holes in the rails. Do I punch through that to access the middle screws? Thanks for you help on this. I'm trying to get to the seat frame so I can replace the one on my 300SD drivers seat. I'm sure I'll be asking for help on that removal as well, but first things first.

I know there's a link to seat "recovery", but I can't find it. Does that have the info / procedure for removing seats and rails? Can someone point to it for me? I looked in the interior and detailing section to no avail.
