300CD total brake replacement questions

I bought a set of shields from a 89 SEL this weekend so I started the purchase of brake parts. I want to go to the larger vented rotors from the gen2 w126. I got rotors and calipers for a 88 SEC for the front, in the rear my calipers look fine but I like to replace disks with the pads since they're fairly cheap. appearently there are 2 different disks for the rear. anyone know what the difference is and if they are interchangable? the guy at the counter said they were not interchangable. the were either zimmermann or brembo. how can I tell what I have?

edit: appearently the NAPA guy's a tool, Advance said the rotors are the same, and this site lists no difference. I assumed he was wrong when the NAPA guy told me they were different but I didnt buy them there becuase I wanted to be sure. I got the advance ones same day.

2nd gen rotors are an inch bigger diameter than the 1st gen, both are vented

if you put 2nd gen brakes on your car, you will need 15" or larger wheels.

The rears are different between the D and TD. Sounds like the NAPA guy is a tool, which is rare, they are usually more knowlegeable than all the others.

so are the rears on a TD bigger or vented? If so I would rather use those.

I am not sure, I just know they are different. That is a very good question though!

What kind of pads did you get? I recommend the EBC green or red.

The part numbers for the rotors on a 300d, 300td and 300SD (1st gen.) are all the same. I believe it's the same on a 240d too.

The rear rotors on a TD are not bigger or vented either.

Yeah, I have freely swapped rear rotors, and calipers from my SD, D and TD's no difference other than the obvious ate/bendix calipers... which are totally interchangeable.
have you noticed that the NAPA techs are all tools? I mean you have to tell them exactly what you are using the parts for or they won't give you them. I was repairing a trailer brake system, and needed some flex lines, they didn't have exactly what I wanted, so I wanted to emprovise with hard lines, and fittings and different flex lines, and nope he would not give me the parts. had to be EXACTLY what I brought in, DOT regulations not allowed to swap... arrrgh!!!

Huh? Even Mcparts will sell you hard line and fittings. You must have a VERY conservative Napa. I thought they were all about the custom scene.
