Parenting skills? I'm over 22......I rarely speed myself (an neither does my dad)....but on those opportune occasions.....

Speeding and parenting are two separate things. You can be an excellent parent while going very fast.

The new SD has a fancy radar/laser detector in it. Maybe we can set a speed record! The motor is a MB factory re-man according to the plate on the front, its gotta have less than 100k on it, the car it came from only had 160k! The paint marks on the camshaft look brand new, and it runs VERY strong.

i thought all of the diesel odometers were either 120 mph or 140 mph??

They are.....the car is my dad's '83 300SD, it was originally a Canadian car so it had a km speedo.....they swapped it with a gasser speedo when it came into the US from Canada in 1989.....it was originally sold in Windsor.....oddly enough, while the speedo is between 1 and 9 mph off (inaccuracy increases with speed), the odometer and trip meter are dead on, verified multiple times with mile markers and me following him in my SD... Weird eh?

You can put a 160 MPH in if you have one. Helps to get it calibrated to the car though
The one pictured now resides in my '87 300D. Accurate too. Just never had it over 105 but that was only because of traffic limitations, I still had some headroom.

Actually normal for a Benz, the two are adjustable separately.
Older speedos tend to lose accuracy on the MPH and show faster that actual indicated speed. You can have it lubed and calibrated if you want. I replaced mine when it quit (as in bad) with the gasser speedo (0-160 MPH) shown in my previous post, it set me back $60 for the whole cluster (VERY much brighter!!!) and $180 for cal and lube. They had to lube it a second time under warranty to stop the needle from shaking now its perfectly smooth above 20 MPH and just a little wavering below that which I was told is normal for these.

Lord,
Would it be to terribly much to let me get this Xterra sold? I would really love to have that extra money for modding my 300SD. Oh! and charity. I meant charity too...

I've done that a couple times on the Ford. It only has an 85mph speedometer and a 5.8L V8 under the hood. Pretty easy to peg that one ...is that the sound of sucking gasoline?

Although I will say it isn't all that stable above 85.......

And in the 124 with my new rubber, 110 feels darn near the same as 60, just a little noisier. Never tried to get up to the theoretical max of 122, but I bet it would take a day and a half to get from 110 to there.

Its an "X-Earth" like Dwight Schrute says. "I will use this car on my farm as a wagon, towed behind two donkeys."

[QUOTE=pawoSD;1989128]I took this pic last Saturday while my dad and I were on the way to the junk yard. Note the 300k+ miles We actually went faster than that but I didn't get a pic in time...highest we hit was "121" which, accounting for the incorrect speedo, is about 112 or so....

This is the Canadian version. Next time go out on the highway and really wind it up. Across town to the junkyard does not give these Canadian versions enough time to get into their stride.

No officer I do not know how fast I was going. At that ballistic speed I dare not take my eyes off the road to look at the speedometer. That would be dangerous driving.

I always was amused by the officers always asking me. Do you know how fast you were going? One day I will be brave enough to mention that it is a stupid question. I know you are going to tell me the answer anyways.

Unfortunatly I cannot satisfy all my impulses. There is alway hope you will get a warning if reasonable. They are actually pretty lienient around here. They bumped the provincial fines so high the officers are reluctant to hand them out locally. They do not hesitate to do so in and around the bigger centres so the provinces fine revenue is still higher. The greed turned out to be counterproductive locally. I have resisted writing in and asking for a two tiered system.
At present they just threaten to fire all the local guys for not even denting their fine quotas...

I'm surprised you guys got 120+ Figures.

The 420SEL was tested by MB and tops out at 121.3 (i verified this many times myself ), I have had my car to 118 before and it takes FOREVER to get there and once it does, it seems like it has no more.
