Lightbulb Glow Plug Light Troubleshooting Information

Vehicle is a 1981 240D. It has the black box Glow Plug relay module mounted on the driver's side wheel well in the engine compartment.

Is there any information out there about how it tries to use the lite to aid in troubleshooting. Also does anybody out there have a schematic.

Here is what I have found from my experience.

One plug open - lite does illuminate but for only 3 seconds or less(short time)
Two plugs open - lite does not illuminate on first try. It does on the second try.

I have even heard of a mode where the light flashes but have never witnessed it.

Anybody know what the designer intended to aid in our diagnosis??

On mine, the light came on for a very short time, to not at all. I checked the resistance of each glow plug with an ohm meter. You unplug at the relay, and touch the red lead to the numbered female, and the black lead to any ground. You're looking for less than one.
