1995 S350D with bad transmisssion - how much is it worth?

Hi guys,

how much is a clean 1995 S350 diesel with 235K miles and bad transmission worth? $6000?

How much for a used transmission? Is that transmission the same as the 1987 300SDL, or any gas mercedes?

Thanks!

$6000

Put down the crack pipe and run the other direction!!!!!
Seriously, the rod bending engine in that car is way past the mileage where a large portion of them bend a rod.
On the good side, so many of these engines have trashed themselves that a used tranny shouldn't be hard to find.
$6K
I don't think so.........

So $3K is about what I should offer?
As long as the engine is good?

You should confirm the engine IS good. IIRC, only later repalcement crate motors got the upgraded rods and some of them bent too. A couple of end of production 95's might have got the upgrade. Others (Sixto, etc.) would know for sure.

$6000 is fair if it's in good condition including a functioning transmission. Are you able to test it thoroughly with the bad transmission? Can you get it to a tech you trust for a pre-purchase inspection?

I'm one of the few in the world who'd pay $3000 for such a car because I don't mind swapping a transmission or even an engine and I'm of the mindset that the engine has a 50-50 chance at best of being sound.

You might pay $3000 for the car, another $3000 for a transmission and have car that will last a good long time, but there's a good chance you'll be part of the other statistic.

Before you take the plunge, check what your insurance will pay if the car is stolen or totalled. It'll be a long hard battle to get anything close to $6000. Insurance use goofy value models that are nothing like NADA and KBB. I had a difficult time convincing my insurance that a 93 300SD is worth more than a 93 300SE.

I have the transmission from my '91 350SDL, if it will work/fit and you want it, It's not made of gold I'll sell it cheap.
