Hello all!

I didn't see an area for member introductions so I figured I'd start a thread introducing myself to the crew and sharing my most recent purchase

My name is Aaron Tavenner, I'm 20 years old, and I'm a college student majoring in Psychology. I live in East Texas.

My car is a 1979 Mercedes Benz 240D. I find it to be a very desirable model because of it's simplicities, such as manual windows/locks, 4-speed manual transmission, and manual HVAC controls.

I picked up the car about a week ago. It's currently not in the best condition, but I couldn't pass it up. I haven't quite decided if I'm going to keep it just yet, as I'm taking 15 hours of schooling along with working 30 hours per week. I'm not sure if I want to rebuild it, or sell it, save a bit, and purchase a car already in drivable condition. Maybe a few experienced members can chime in with a little advice

Anyways, enough talk, here are a few pics:

I would throw a used engine in that sucker and drive it as a beater.

If you decide to part it out I would be VERY interested in the trim piece circled in this picture. I have the same MCC on my 240D, but most of these have a different trim piece with a wheel rather than the dial.

Hey Aaron, congratulations on your purchase. It sounds like you're pretty busy now, but there are many more hours in a week outside the 45 you have taken already.

Putting an OM617 in there would be very cool, but it depends on the condition of everything else. In a worst case scenario, you have a parts car and a desirable manual trans to swap into something else.

I recognize that car. He bought that from the HitMan.
It is going to need an engine and carpet for a start. I think with your schooling requirements plus a job that you aren't going to have the time to fix it up quickly.
If you are in it for the long haul and can take your time and have a place for it then I would keep it and work on it slowly. It is the kind of car that you can enjoy for many years to come.

Working 30 hours and taking 15 hours of courses is not a 45 hour week. In the classes I teach, if you don't study 2 hours for every hour you are in class you won't pass the course.

So, I calculate the week:
30 hours working + 15 hours in class + 30 hours studying = 75 hours/week committed. That leaves some wrench time but not a lot.

Welcome to the Forum.

If you decide to part it out; I would be most interested in the seats. They would fit Chameleon.
